Pink diamond to lead Sotheby’s HK autumn sale on Oct 7
Sotheby’s Hong Kong is going to present an 8.41-carat pear-shaped internally flawless fancy purple-pink diamond, which has a pre-sale estimate of $12.8 million to $15.4 million, as part of the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale 2014 scheduled for October 7, the auction house said in a press release recently.
The 8.41-carat stone was cut from a 19.54-carat rough mined by De Beers, with the final cutting completed in New York. The internally flawless clarity of this stone is extremely rare in pink diamonds and virtually unseen in any significant pink diamonds of fancy vivid or fancy intense colour grading sold at auction, the auction house added. The diamond also has the highest colour grading by GIA, signifying the most vibrant and concentrated colour in diamonds.

“This colour is one of the most beautiful and concentrated shades of pink in diamonds that I have seen and, combined with the exceptional clarity, it is not surprising that it would command the highest per-carat pre-sale estimate for any pink diamond to date. With this exquisite pink diamond, we continue Sotheby’s tradition of bringing some of the rarest and most extraordinary objects to market,” said Quek Chin Yeow, Sotheby’s deputy chairman for Asia and chairman for international jewellery in Asia.
The Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale 2014 will be held on October 7 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. The diamond will be previewed in Singapore, Taipei, New York, London, Geneva and Hong Kong before the auction.
